The left seated soldier is identified as Edwin Landvoigt, a member of the First Confederate Cavalry Regiment .The other two are unidentified soldiers in uniform, one with sword. He was a gallant soldier, as has been attested many hundreds of times by those with whom he served. He participated actively in the great battles of Shiloh, Blackland, Fort Donelson, Farmington, Stone River, Shelbyville, Perryville, Lookout Mountain, Ringgold Gap and Fort Morgan, besides many minor engagements, and was among the captured at the latter place. He bravely followed Wheeler in his famous raid through Kentucky and Tennessee, and endured the hardships and sufferings of that cruel period, uncomplainingly and unself…”
